JOHN PROPERTIES UNVEILS SEMACONNECT ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) CHARGING STATIONS AT
CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS AND MAPLE LAWN
Effort
Supports Maryland EV Infrastructure Program
ANNAPOLIS, Dec. 13, 2011 – St. John Properties, Inc., one
of the Mid-Atlantic region’s largest privately-held commercial real estate firms,
and SemaConnect, a leading developer and producer of smart networked
electric vehicle charging stations and sophisticated electric vehicle (EV)
station software, today unveiled several ChargePro EV charging stations at two of its business parks: St. John Properties’ corporate
headquarters in Baltimore County, and Maple Lawn, a Class “A” business
community in Howard County. An event will be held at St. John Properties’ headquarters
(2560 Lord Baltimore Drive, Baltimore MD 21244) on December 14 at 10:00am.
“Through Maryland’s Electric Vehicle
Infrastructure Program we’ve built a complete network of charging stations,”
said Mahi Reddy, CEO of SemaConnect. “Companies such as St. John Properties
make it possible for us to continue building this EV charging network in
Maryland and bring Maryland to the forefront as one of the most sustainable
states on the East Coast.”
The Maryland Energy
Administration allocated approximately $600,000 in American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act funds to aid the development and integration of electric transportation
into Maryland’s transportation system. The investment resulted in the
construction of 65 charging stations throughout the Baltimore-Washington
Metropolitan Area, providing the necessary infrastructure to allow electric
vehicle owners to travel throughout the region. The Baltimore-Washington
Electric Vehicle Initiative (BEVI) in partnership with SemaConnect is
developing 55 electric charging stations.
“We are constantly looking for creative
ways to incorporate sustainable products and techniques into everyday living,
and we view the use of electrically-powered transportation as a rapidly
emerging trend in the United States,” stated Jerry Wit, Senior Vice President,
Marketing for St. John Properties. “Our employees and tenants, as well as
visitors to our office buildings, now have the opportunity to recharge their
electric charge batteries in a safe and trouble-free manner.”
The need for convenient, public
charging is quickly emerging as most major automakers are producing electric
cars, or intend to in the near future. The early focus on EV infrastructure
has been focused on installing charging equipment in homes and municipal
garages. However, many commercial locations lack public charging.
St. John’s Maple Lawn includes
three multi-story Class "A" offices buildings totaling over
285,000 square feet of space, with a fourth multi-story (100,000 square feet)
due for delivery in Q4 2011. These top-notch properties feature attractive
lobby environments and state-of-the-art mechanical and energy managements
systems. The office buildings enjoy easy access to the region’s extensive
transportation network, low-cost fitness center access, nearby childcare and a
full range of dining, shopping and personal services within walking distance,
making it the perfect location for EV charging stations.
The ChargePro 620 is Level
II (240VAC, 30Amps) and can recharge a Volt vehicle in three to four hours and
a 100% electric Nissan Leaf car in approximately six to seven hours. It comes
with a J1772 plug that enables all new electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to
recharge, made possible through the initiatives at the Society of Automotive
Engineers. Specifically designed for commercial-grade applications,
SemaConnect’s ChargePro Charging Station is an intelligent, network-based EV charging system with features

Annapolis, Maryland will receive a ChargePro EV Charging Station
If you own a Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt or Tesla Roadster and your car is a little low on power, the city soon will offer a place for you to charge up for free.
Two electric car-charging stations will be installed in the Knighton public parking garage off Inner West Street within the next month, said Lily Openshaw, the project manager.
The total price for parts and installation will fall somewhere between $23,000 and $34,000, but grants will offset the costs, officials said.
The Baltimore-Washington Electric Vehicle Initiative, or BEVI, is footing the bill for the equipment with state money, and the city will pay for the installation out of a $171,000 federal stimulus grant.
That same stimulus grant eventually will help pay for a tour bus charging station near Ramshead on West Street, said Frank Biba, chief of environmental programs. Officials expect to complete that project within the next year, he said.
The goal for the Knighton project is to put Annapolis ahead of the curve on new technologies while also generating a little more incentive for parking in an underused garage.
"I'm really hoping this is the future for a lot of our facilities," Openshaw said.
A contractor will install the equipment under a shelter on the first level. Motorists will be able to drive right up to the plugs.
Jill Sorensen, the executive director of BEVI, said Maryland energy officials are trying to expand the state's electric vehicle infrastructure. There already are a handful of charging stations in public places throughout Anne Arundel County.
Georgetown - say "Hello!" to your new ChargePro!
Charles Lancaster, PMI, Leslie Ross, Jamestown DC, Berhane Gebreab, PMI, and Philippe Lanier, EastBanc
Running low on energy? Tuesday, December 13, EastBanc, Inc. and Jamestown will unveil a new electric charging station, the first in Georgetown. Electric car owners can drive into the M Street Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at the PMI Parking Garage at 3307 M Street, and recharge their electric power-driven vehicles.
The charging station, developed and produced by SemaConnect, is a sleek, compact charging unit, easily installed and integrated into existing facilities.
EastBanc and Jamestown are absorbing all charging costs for the first three months of operation. After the initial complimentary three-month period, the cost to charge electric vehicles at the charging station will run $.50 to $1.50.
Thank you to Jamestown, Eastbanc and PMI Parking for bringing Georgetown its first ChargePro EV Charging station!

Johns Hopkins University Installs SemaConnect’s EV Charging Stations
ANNAPOLIS, Dec. 1, 2011 – Johns Hopkins University and SemaConnect, a leading developer and producer of smart networked electric vehicle charging stations and sophisticated electric vehicle (EV) station software, today announced the installation of several ChargePro EV charging stations at JHU’s South Garage.
“Our ChargePro charging stations are a perfect fit for universities,” said Mahi Reddy, CEO of SemaConnect. “Students, faculty, staff and guests at Johns Hopkins will now have an easy, safe and reliable way to power the new generation of electric vehicles.”
The Maryland Energy Administration allocated approximately $600,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to aid the development and integration of electric transportation into Maryland’s transportation system. The investment resulted in the construction of sixty-five charging stations throughout the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, providing the necessary infrastructure to allow electric vehicle owners to travel throughout the region. The Baltimore-Washington Electric Vehicle Initiative (BEVI) in partnership with SemaConnect is developing fifty-five electric charging stations.
“We are excited to offer electric charging stations for what we hope is a growing list of vehicles. Currently, the Chevrolet Volt, Nissan Leaf and Toyota’s Plug-in Prius use this type of adapter and future electric vehicles will also standardize on this design. We have had the opportunity to test the chargers and they are extremely convenient and easy to use,” said Greg Smith, Associate Director at Homewood Facilities Management.
The need for convenient, public charging is growing fast as most major automakers are already producing electric cars, or will be in the near future. The early focus on EV infrastructure has been on installing charging equipment in homes and municipal garages. However, many urban locations don’t have access to home or garage units, and all EV drivers need to have the confidence they can find a charge if their battery runs low while they are on the road.
Specifically designed for commercial-grade applications, SemaConnect’s ChargePro Charging Station is a sleek, compact charging unit that is easily installed and integrated into developing and existing facilities at multifamily, office, retail, fleet and municipal parking locations.
This intelligent, network-based EV charging system features:
• Smart card authentication – for open or restricted access.
• Smart Grid Integration – for easy energy metering and demand response.
• Automatic billing/payment system – for easy revenue generation.
• Easy Installation - use our turnkey solution or your own contractor.
